Penncross is a perfect grass for greens, tees, and fairways. Golf architects have designated Penncross for areas of both extreme cold and hot temperatures. It is known for its aggressive growth habit, vigor, and superior wear tolerance. Penncross Creeping Bentgrass performs best in soils with a pH of 5.5 - 8. It prefers sandy, well-drained soils, but it can tolerate short periods of saturation. Plant Penncross Creeping Bentgrass seed in the spring once soil temperature reaches 55F. If planting in the fall, allow a minimum of 6 weeks for establishment before the first frost. Broadcast of the seed walking across the area north to south, and repeat a second application with the remaining of seed walking east to west. It is not necessary to cover the seed. Keep the seed consistently moist until germination occurs. Generally, the first mowing of Penncross is 21 - 30 days after seeding. Optimal mowing height is 3/16 - 5/16 inch.
